On the 7th of March 2026, Skater Uktis organised a Skate x Iftar session, which saw many amazing women come together to pray, break our fast, make zines, enjoy photography, and skate!
As part of our aim to get more Muslim women to try skateboarding, we are so proud of all the sisters that showed up to unapologetically occupy space within the skate scene.
Hosted by Khadra and Hafsah, the session started with an introduction to Skater Uktis, followed by a poetry recital by spoken word artist, Sakinah. We then enjoyed a wonderful performance by our special guests, Pearls of Islam, a British duo of African Caribbean heritage, blending devotional praise, traditional Qasaid poetry, and contemporary sound. Participants also took part in a zine workshop hosted by Amna, and photography exhibition by Mehaira, a London-based photographer and creative director.
We then had iftar and communal prayers before launching our skate session, and wrapped up the lovely evening with a raffle event, heartfelt memories, and long-lasting sisterhood.
